Reed Green shaker kitchen in Tamworth
This kitchen began as a traditional oak space that felt dark and dated, with a layout that limited how the room could be used day to day. The client wanted a lighter, more modern kitchen that still felt warm and familiar, with better functionality and improved usability throughout.
The Before
Although the original kitchen was well cared for, the heavy oak cabinetry absorbed light and made the space feel smaller than it needed to be. The layout also restricted flexibility, with limited work zones and no clear area for everyday tasks beyond cooking.
Electrically, the room needed significant upgrading. Power points were limited and poorly positioned, and the ceiling and walls required chasing to accommodate new wiring. The client also wanted to move away from their existing layout without the disruption of structural changes or replacing the flooring.
What we did…
-
To brighten the room while retaining a classic feel, Central KBB designed a shaker kitchen using a five-piece vinyl-wrap door in Reed Green. The soft, on-trend colour lifted the space while still complementing the home’s traditional character, while brushed nickel strap handles added a clean, understated contrast.
A Spectra Cotswold Oak square-edge laminate worktop with matching upstand was chosen to balance warmth, durability, and budget. A glass splashback kept the walls light and easy to maintain, helping the narrow layout feel more open. With no space for an island, a dedicated working station was introduced instead, providing a practical prep area without disrupting flow.
Appliances were carefully selected to maximise value and performance. Ex-display items were incorporated where possible, including a Caple hob, a NEFF oven, and a fully integrated NEFF dishwasher. An Elica Era standard integrated extractor was discreetly built into the cabinetry, while integrated fridge and freezer units ensured a seamless, uncluttered finish throughout the kitchen.
-
Electrical upgrades were extensive, with all wiring chased through the ceiling and walls and the ceiling fully re-plastered to achieve a clean finish. USB sockets were added throughout the kitchen to support modern living and device charging.
The extractor ducting was boxed in neatly to maintain clear lines and a cohesive look, rather than relying on recirculation. Cabinetry and appliances were fitted with precision, ensuring consistent spacing, alignment, and a refined overall finish.
-
Central KBB oversaw all aspects of the project, coordinating the strip-out, electrical works, ceiling repairs, and full kitchen installation. Careful sequencing ensured that disruptive work was completed efficiently, with the room fully made good before final fitting began.
Clear communication and attention to detail meant the client always knew what to expect, with the team taking care to protect the home and minimise disruption throughout the process.

The finished kitchen now feels lighter, more open, and far easier to use. The Reed Green cabinetry brings warmth without heaviness, while the thoughtful layout supports everyday cooking, working, and gathering with ease. It is a practical, well-balanced space that feels both fresh and timeless.
